In the process of trying out alternative approaches to welcoming in the New Year I am really enjoying the overall feeling surrounding all my contemplations and reflections. Some of the themes wind up overlapping, and some of the same ideas and musings are popping up in the different posts, but I think that just means they are that important! I think yesterday’s post was the deepest and most challenging so far, but I’ve been having fun with all of them!
Today’s undertaking was inspired by this post - 11 Permissions for 2011. I stumbled upon it last week. The concept of giving myself some unapologetic permissions really resonated with me, so I am inspired to give it try!…..
This year of 2011, I give myself unapologetic permission to:
- Make art that I love, but also make mistakes, and possibly do some crappy to mediocre stuff in the process!
- Grieve, be sad, be angry, and cry it out when I need to.
- Be selfish when I need to be – in the “I am my own best friend” and need my own love as much as anyone else does – kind of way.
- Not hold back, restrain, dim, or hide myself… or let anyone make me feel small.
- Be my amazing, f*#king self, flaws and all!
- Say no.
- Play!
- Release some of my unproductive guilt!
- Take the summer off of school, and maybe work.
- “Surround myself with inspiration and beauty.”
- “Fearlessly live up to my full potential.”
(Those last two I stole directly from TheOrganicSister‘s post, but they are so perfect, and I think we should all permit ourselves those things!)
Now, granted, some of these things are easier said than done, but that is not the point! I said yesterday’s post was the deepest yet, but this one was harder than I thought it would be! I felt myself trying to hold on too tightly to some of my old ways… So once again, I am really glad I did this, and totally recommend it!
We used to think that when we were grown-up we would no longer be vulnerable. But to grow up is to accept vulnerability…To be alive is to be vulnerable. -Madeleine L’Engle
